Joshua—Live!

Four gatherings. Meaningful conversation. A next step together.

Sight & Sound brings its stage production to the cinema, following Joshua and the Israelites through uncertainty toward the Promised Land. Explore courage, trust, and God’s faithfulness through Scripture.

An original, independent Faith Film Fan guide inspired by the film’s themes. Watch through the official release or an authorized showing before gathering. This guide does not include the movie or grant screening rights.

A simple rhythm for each gathering

5 min · Welcome and check in   /   10 min · Read and reflect   /   20 min · Discuss   /   10 min · Choose a next step and pray

Read the passage together. Invite honest conversation, leave room for different perspectives, and let anyone pass on a question. Adapt the pace and language for your group.

GATHERING 1 · 45–60 MINUTES

Courage under new responsibility

Read Joshua 1:1–9 CSB

Joshua receives responsibility before he has a map of every outcome. God’s promise of presence gives his courage a foundation. Our situations are different, but we too can seek faithfulness without pretending we are fearless.

Talk it through

  1. What did you notice in the passage? How does it connect with a theme that stood out to you in the movie?
  2. How is courage different from confidence in our own ability?
  3. What helps us recognize a wise next step when we feel afraid?
BETWEEN GATHERINGS

Name the responsibility in prayer and choose one wise next step.

Close in prayer
God, help me remember your presence when I feel inadequate. Invite anyone who wishes to share a prayer request; passing is always welcome.

GATHERING 2 · 45–60 MINUTES

Remembering together

Read Joshua 4:1–7 CSB

The stones from the Jordan were a way to remember and retell what God had done. We also need reminders when the next uncertain season arrives. Gratitude can strengthen trust without promising an easy road.

Talk it through

  1. What did you notice in the passage? How does it connect with a theme that stood out to you in the movie?
  2. What stories of faithfulness have shaped your trust?
  3. How can we pass those stories to the next generation?
BETWEEN GATHERINGS

Write down three reminders of God’s faithfulness and share one.

Close in prayer
God, keep me from forgetting your care. Invite anyone who wishes to share a prayer request; passing is always welcome.

GATHERING 3 · 45–60 MINUTES

Faithfulness without control

Read Psalm 27:13–14 CSB

Waiting is not proof that God has forgotten us. It can become a place to practice patience, seek counsel, and continue doing what is right. Faithfulness matters even when results remain out of sight.

Talk it through

  1. What did you notice in the passage? How does it connect with a theme that stood out to you in the movie?
  2. What is difficult about waiting for an outcome we cannot control?
  3. How can our group support someone in an uncertain season?
BETWEEN GATHERINGS

Choose one faithful action you can take without trying to control the outcome.

Close in prayer
God, strengthen my heart and teach me patience. Invite anyone who wishes to share a prayer request; passing is always welcome.

GATHERING 4 · 45–60 MINUTES

A community of courage

Read Hebrews 10:23–25 CSB

Trust grows in community as we remind one another of God’s faithfulness. We do not have to carry every uncertain step alone. Encouragement becomes useful when it includes presence and practical support.

Talk it through

  1. What did you notice in the passage? How does it connect with a theme that stood out to you in the movie?
  2. What kind of encouragement has helped you take a difficult step?
  3. Who needs our practical presence this week?
BETWEEN GATHERINGS

Send a specific encouragement and offer one concrete form of support.

Close in prayer
God, use my presence to strengthen someone else. Invite anyone who wishes to share a prayer request; passing is always welcome.
